Power up the device
The Andon unit is powered over Ethernet. A single cable from your PoE switch or injector delivers both power and network connectivity, so there's no separate power supply to mount or wire.
Plug in PoE
Connect an Ethernet cable from your PoE switch or PoE injector to the Ethernet port on the Andon unit. The unit boots in about 30 seconds. The indicator LED next to the Ethernet jack turns green when power is good.
Standards
The unit accepts standard 802.3af (PoE) or 802.3at (PoE+). Any common PoE switch or injector works. The unit draws about 4 watts in normal operation.
Connect to the setup hotspot
The Andon unit hosts its own WiFi network the first time it powers on. Connect your phone or laptop to it. There's no password.
Open WiFi settings on your phone and look for a network starting with Zira-Andon- followed by four characters. The four characters match the last four digits of the unit's WiFi MAC address, so every unit's hotspot has a unique name.
Connect to it. Your phone may warn you that the network has no internet access. That's expected. Tell the phone to stay connected anyway.
Open the setup page
With your phone connected to the Andon hotspot, open a browser and type the setup address. The page loads instantly since it's served directly from the device.
How to get there
- Open your browser on your phone — Safari, Chrome, anything works.
- Tap the address bar at the top.
- Type

You'll land on the Andon Setup page. It has four sections you'll use during setup:
- Device — hostname, MAC addresses, current IP. This is where you copy the MAC for whitelisting.
- Device Name — rename the unit (covered in Step 4).
- Connect to WiFi — scan and join a WiFi network (Step 5, optional).
- Andon Test — fire the relays to verify the install (Step 6).
Scroll the page on your phone to reach each section. You can come back to this page anytime — once the unit is on your network, the same page is reachable at http://<your-name>.local:8080/config.
10.42.0.1 is the gateway address the unit uses for its hotspot. Your phone gets an address in the same range automatically.
Record the MAC address if your network requires whitelisting
Many corporate and factory networks require new devices to be added to an allow list before they can connect. The Andon unit displays both its WiFi MAC (wlan0 MAC) and its Ethernet MAC (eth0 MAC) at the top of the setup page.
What to do
- Tap the copy icon (
⧉) next to the MAC address shown in the Device card. - Paste it into a note on your phone, or text it to whoever manages your network.
- Have your network admin add it to the firewall or DHCP allow list before you attempt to join the network in Step 5.
If the unit will only ever use a wired Ethernet connection (not WiFi), only the eth0 MAC matters. If you'll use WiFi, copy the wlan0 MAC. To play it safe, capture both.
d8:3a:dd:5b:8a:1b. Some IT systems use dashes (d8-3a-dd-5b-8a-1b) instead of colons. The two formats are equivalent.
Name your Andon
Before doing anything else, give the device a meaningful name. The hostname is how the unit shows up on your network. The default name is shared across all new units, so two devices on the same network with default names would clash.
On the setup page, find the Device Name section. Enter a name that identifies where the unit is installed, then tap Save. After a brief moment, the device will be reachable at http://<your-name>.local:8080/ on your network.

Rules
- Use letters, numbers, and hyphens only (no spaces, underscores, or special characters)
- 1 to 63 characters long
- Don't start or end with a hyphen
- Two Andons on the same network must have different names
andon-line-3 is instantly recognizable. zira-andon isn't, especially if you have several.
If you're installing several Andons in one facility, name each one as you set it up. Don't power on more than one default-named unit at the same time on the same network, because andon.local will resolve to whichever unit got there first.

Join your WiFi network
If the Andon is hardwired to the same switch or gateway as your Zira cameras, you can skip this step. The wired Ethernet connection is faster, more reliable, and requires no further configuration. Use this step only if the unit needs to be on WiFi instead of (or in addition to) wired Ethernet.
On the setup page, scroll to Connect to WiFi. The unit scans for nearby networks and shows them ranked by signal strength.
- Find your facility's WiFi network in the list.
- Tap it to select.
- Enter the WiFi password if prompted.
- Tap Connect.
The unit joins your WiFi and the setup hotspot turns off automatically, since it's only needed for the first connection. The page may show a brief disconnect, then redirect you back when the unit is reachable on the new network.

If your network requires MAC whitelisting, make sure you've already added the unit's MAC to your allow list (see Step 3). Otherwise the device will fail to join.
Run a test cycle
With the device named and on your network (wired or WiFi), open the setup page from any computer or phone on the same network and confirm everything is wired up correctly.
Open http://<your-name>.local:8080/config in your browser, using the hostname you set in Step 4 (for example, andon-line-3.local:8080).
Scroll to the Andon Test section and tap Run Test Cycle. The unit fires each relay channel in sequence:
- Channel 1 activates for one second, then turns off
- Channel 2 activates for one second, then turns off
- Channel 3 activates for one second, then turns off
For a 2-Color + Siren configuration, watch for green light, red light, then siren. For a 3-Color Stack, watch for green, amber, then red.

If a channel doesn't respond, double-check the wiring at the terminal block on the back of the unit. Each channel has three terminals: NO (normally open), C (common), and NC (normally closed). Most installs use NO and C.
If you ever get locked out
The unit can be reset back to factory defaults at any time. Use this if the WiFi network it's joined to becomes unavailable, you've moved the unit to a different facility, or you simply want to start fresh.
Option 1 — Reset button
The reset button sits behind a small pinhole on the bottom of the enclosure, near where the PoE Ethernet cable plugs in. Insert a pin, paper clip, or thin screwdriver into the hole and press and hold for five seconds. The red light pulses while you hold, then goes solid for one second to confirm the reset. The setup hotspot comes back up automatically and you can start the WiFi setup again from Step 2.
Option 2 — Wired access
If the unit is still on PoE or Ethernet, you can always reach it over the wired connection regardless of WiFi state. Plug a laptop into the same wired network and open http://<hostname>.local:8080/config. From there you can change WiFi or trigger a factory reset.
